"The Old Lady Who Swallowed the Fly"

A very reliable book to help teach children the alphabet in a very animistic way. I have the coconut tree with velcro letters and the children take turns putting them on and shaking the tree to get them off.

"The Old Lady Who Swallowed the Fly"

The reason I love this story is because there is so much to do with it and it is very easy for the children to learn because of the rhyming words and funny storyline. We make puppets of the animals and use our velcro board shown above to go along with the story.

"From Head to Toe"

I am a fan of all of Eric Carle's books. I am currently searching for more books that make kids move around because of how much the kids enjoy this one. We get silly and noisy while learning animal behaviors and sounds.

Tuna Casserole

An easy recipe that is rich in nutrients is my specialty. This tuna casserole is the perfect trick to hide vegetables in some cheesy goodness.

I try this recipe with children just starting out to eat solid foods as it is very soft and nutritious. I would eat this when I was a child and I love sharing it with the kids.

Colored Bears

Shapes through Sticks

Shapes through Sticks

This activity is geared towards our infants who are learning to recognize colors. We have these bears in many colors and in two sizes; they learn the basics using fist-sized bears that they can grasp comfortably. It fascinates me how quickly they understand big and small and all the colors after using these bears.

Shapes through Sticks

This activity's difficulty can be altered in different ways; what is pictured above is the hardest version. The children learn shapes while practicing their fine motors skills by sliding the shapes down the stick through one of the small holes. It requires a lot of focus and practice. A simpler version is that the holes in the shapes would be much larger.

Letter Picnic

Shapes through Sticks

Letter Picnic

The children love this activity because we get to pretend we are having a picnic with all our friends! Each item that you would typically see in a picnic is pictured on a card along with its letter. We gather our magnetic letters and the items and watch as the children match both the object and its letter to the cards.
