Our Curriculum

WE PROVIDE

a safe and welcoming learning center for children two months to four years old. We are a Regulated, Accredited, Bilingual Family Child Care. Although there is both English and Spanish literature, the curriculum itself is English exclusive. Our home has a large backyard so that the children have a lot of space to run and be creative and it is fully enclosed with a high gate. Our indoor and outdoor facility is equipped and regularly altered with the appropriate equipment for the age group we have. Our attentive staff is consistent and loving with the children, allowing them to form strong bonds with their caretakers and among the small group of children that we have.We have a creative curriculum that focuses on real world scenes as well as the preferences of the children and the needs of the age groups we have. The curriculum is focused on a monthly theme that is decided by the time of the year; the stories, songs, discussions and activities are in accordance with the theme. We engage the children's curiosity and their interest in learning by providing a widespread and comprehensive educational program. In Sweet Child Care, our days are never repeated.

With the space we have, we have created sectors dedicated to dramatic play, reading, crafting, running, building and sports. We follow Montessori Style Learning and switch out toys and decorations frequently per the interest of the children and monthly theme. We also have the luck to have a public playground walking distance from our home. We schedule time for all these activities but make sure that their social, physical, cognitive and language skills are improved every day. I tailor every activity for their age group while also encouraging them to try advanced tasks. I teach directly and personally so each child receives the attention they deserve in order to stay on track. There is a gradual change in the difficulty of our activities as the children age but I love having all of them do their activities together; the young have an older child to learn from and the older ones learn to be role models. Something that I give a lot of importance to is nutritional health, so everyday we follow the guidelines of the USDA by providing various snacks that introduce new flavors so the kids can develop a diverse palate. We treat these children as if they were our own; the parents begin to rely on us and the other families and see the Sweet Child Care community as a support system.

SCREEN TIME POLICY

Because we care about the health and well-being of the children under our care, we follow the American Academy of Pediatrics' recommendations on screen time:

  • Children under 2 should have no screen time
  • Children age 2 and over should watch no more than 30 minutes per week at day care, and less than 2 hours per day total

My family child care program understands that TV and other electronic media can prevent the children from exploring, playing, and interacting with others, which encourages learning and healthy physical and social development. Therefore, we will restrict screen time by:

  1. Allowing a maximum of 30 minutes total per week of educational and age appropriate screen time (TV, video, and DVD)
  2. Not allowing screen time during meals and snacks
  3. Having ZERO screen time for children under the age of two

Our Meal Plan

We begin to provide food once they turn one.

Per the guidelines of the USDA, We provide:

○ Breakfast: fresh fruit, grains and one dairy

○ Two Healthy Snacks: fresh fruits or vegetables and grains

We do not serve lunch. Lunch is provided by the parents on a daily basis and we have a refrigerator and microwave available. We expect parents to provide a nutritious lunch everyday, consisting of protein and vegetables.

We require the parents to bring their child a water bottle and they will only drink water throughout the day.

If there are any dietary restrictions, we ask that the parents bring their own food for safety reasons.

If you prefer to bring your own food, then we welcome it entirely.

Our Traditions

Birthdays

Birthdays are some of our funnest days. Music, dancing, and of course, treats! We decorate the daycare, sing the song, and make sure the child knows how loved they are.

Graduation

A very emotional day for both your family and ours. Your child's last day will be celebrated with a simple ceremony and treats with all their friends.

Mother's Day/Father's Day

We love celebrating the mothers and fathers in the daycare by hosting small gatherings and helping the children make crafts. We hope these events help the children socialize with the other families while feeling proud to show off their own.

Halloween

Every year we hold a Halloween Parade where the children dress up in their costumes and we parade to our trusted neighbors' doors and trick-or-treat! The parents have an opportunity to take great pictures and the children have a chance to have an early Halloween with all their friends.

Winter Holidays

Our favorite time of the year! We celebrate the winter learning cheerful songs, playing in the snow (if we are lucky), and ending the year with our annual Holiday Party.
